Conservation Kit School Program
What we do and how we live makes a difference! The Conservation Kit School Program starts Conservation Conversations® in the classroom, then brings the energy efficiency message home!
The Conservation Kit School Program promotes energy efficiency education with families and energy efficiency program participation. We use an educational model that changes how students and their families engage in energy, water and gas conservation behaviors.
How It Works
The Conservation Kit School Program provides participating teachers and students with Conservation Kits. Three lesson plans, available in English and Spanish, start Conservation Conversations® in the classroom. Students engage with Watts Up? Meters to measure the energy usage of common household products. By engaging with the Watts Up? Meter to measure the energy consumption of energy efficient and energy wasting products students learn about the benefits of energy efficiency hands on. Additional educational activities and projects expand energy efficiency understanding.
Students take their Conservation Kits home to engage in Conservation Conversations® with family members and parents. The Conservation Kit includes CFL light bulbs, dual spray swivel aerator, switch and outlet gasket pack, LED nightlight, toilet leak detector kit, energy savers booklet and an informal Home Energy Audit. Students use the items inside the Conservation Kit to solidify energy efficiency lessons and improve the energy efficiency of their home.

Useful for parents! Items in the Conservation Kits provide solutions to common energy efficiency issues, additional workshops make it easy to understand inefficiencies at home and realize potential savings. Utility sponsorship incorporates utility information and rebates to support further improvements in energy usage for additional savings.
Effective for sponsors! Conservation Conversations® manages the program’s design and implementation, effectively tracks changes in behavior and promotes sponsor incentives and rebates. Reporting and information on behavior change and program results.
